Get involved in a writing group that is supportive and informative and accessible.
2. Organize a writing space in your home, even if it’s just a place to keep your notebook, pens, laptop, research materials, etc. Be a professional.
3. Read all the time, everything that interests you.
4. Make writing goals and keep them on a calendar.
5. Tell everyone that you are a writer.
6. Continue to learn about writing through courses, how-to books, magazines and autobiographies of writers.
7. Write a list of why you want to write and post it where you can see it every day.
8. Carry a small notebook with a pen everywhere you go—or your Alpha Smart.
9. Make some business cards and give them out.
10. Check out publishers’ websites on a regular basis to see what’s being published, new lines, and opportunities.
11. Consider getting an agent when the time is right.
12. Write every day—even one sentence. You aren’t a writer unless you write.
